You Blasted Madmen was brought together by Ty Trumbull — itinerant traveller, journalist, and songwriter — who wanted to make music with his friends from across the globe. Through studio sessions and home recordings spanning Mexico and Canada, they assembled a collection of songs dedicated to a single defiant idea: that love and friendship can get us through the hard times.

The collective includes musicians from Mexico's Motel, Canada's The Strumbellas, and a handful of other projects most people probably haven't heard of yet. The music combines indie, punk, Latin, blues, and folk into something that kicks ass without taking itself too seriously — guitar solos, badly sung gang chants, and the sweetest vocal harmonies they could find.

The band's name and visual identity are drawn from G.K. Chesterton's The Man Who Was Thursday — a novel about anarchists, detectives, and the terrifying beauty of a world that refuses to make sense. The logo depicts Chesterton's "brain as bomb": not destruction, but expansion. Thought that broadens until it breaks up the universe.
