An international collective built on friendship, distance, and the stubborn belief that love is the only weapon worth carrying.
You Blasted Madmen was brought together by Ty Trumbull — itinerant traveller, journalist, and songwriter — who wanted to make music with his friends from across the globe. Trumbull grew up in Omemee, Ontario, spent thirteen years in Toronto, and eventually landed in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Through studio sessions and home recordings spanning Mexico and Canada, they assembled a collection of songs dedicated to a single defiant idea: that love and friendship can get us through the hard times.
The collective includes musicians from Mexico's Motel, Canada's The Strumbellas, and a handful of other projects most people probably haven't heard of yet. The music combines indie, punk, Latin, blues, and folk into something that kicks ass without taking itself too seriously — guitar solos, badly sung gang chants, and the sweetest vocal harmonies they could find.
The band's name and visual identity are drawn from G.K. Chesterton's The Man Who Was Thursday — a novel about anarchists, detectives, and the terrifying beauty of a world that refuses to make sense.

You Blasted Madmen fue reunido por Ty Trumbull — viajero itinerante, periodista y compositor — quien quería hacer música con sus amigos de todo el mundo. Trumbull creció en Omemee, Ontario, vivió trece años en Toronto, y eventualmente llegó a Playa del Carmen, México. A través de sesiones de estudio y grabaciones caseras entre México y Canadá, ensamblaron una colección de canciones dedicadas a una idea: que el amor y la amistad pueden llevarnos a través de los tiempos difíciles.

The Man Who Was Thursday is a book about anarchists who are also detectives, a God who might be the villain, and a universe that refuses to explain itself. It felt right.
